Hi. I'm Robyn. As a creative being, I am interested in expressing my creativity in various ways. As you can see on this website, this shows up through the process of pottery making and also photography. I also express my creativity as an energy healing facilitator, through doing Polarity Therapy, Astrology, EFT and using therapeutic-grade essential oils. Learn more about it here.
As a potter ....
I am Robyn Langhorst and have worked with clay for 40 years. Though I have a BA in Art Education and an interest in many art mediums, clay has been the most powerful teacher for me. Integrating design and function is fundamental to my process. I create mostly with circular forms (on the wheel), yet I also enjoy adding shapes and designs by hand. Even though many of the same kind of pots are similar, each one is unique. The bulk of the pots that I make are stoneware, mid-range fired clay and my glazes are food, dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. The glazes are fairly consistent, but may vary some in color from one firing to another. Each piece is made and glazed individually by hand, so there may be differences from one piece to another. My logo is a representation of the Hopi symbol of a circle with 2 perpendicular lines centered on it - with 4 circles in each of the 4 quadrants. This symbol depicts the earth, the solstices and equinoxes, the 4 elements, the 4 seasons, the 4 races of people ……. for me, the circular nature of our world and the Earth in balance. Based on the concept that clay and earth are synonymous, my logo symbolizes my love and respect of the natural world through my process of working with clay - the Earth herself. |
As a card maker ....
"Friendship is the golden thread
that ties all hearts together." ~ Unknown |
I have been interested in making cards since I was a child. It was a wonderful surprise to me when the inspiration to make cards came back to me years later through my love of photography. I have been taking photographs for over 35 years, but it wasn’t until I began putting words to the pictures - and putting pictures to the words - that a new way of seeing was opened up to me. I like to look at ordinary images in a new way. Many of my photos are from nature, but in general, I take pictures of things by which I am moved. Then, when I find the right words for each individual image, or the right picture for a quote that I love, it is my intention to move the viewer, as well. The process of matching the quotes to the pictures may take minutes, hours, or even years. I will wait as long as it takes to find, what I think, is the best match. |
